THREE Comics @ C2E2

It's (almost) showtime

I made comics for a few years. Then I didn’t create much for a few. After trying ‘em both on for size, making comics feels best. Now, not quite suddenly, it feels great to share that I have a trio of comics getting reeled up into the light.

Each of these three scripts were written well over a year apart. Presently, all three are now in various stages of development. Best of all? Each is in the hands of true co-creators whose own handcrafted storytelling has permeated and defined all facets of these tales. No AI / generative imagery here, folks. These are books by storytelling artists.

Two of these comics are well on their way. Perhaps you’ve heard tell of these two?

BIG SHOULDERS by Scott Gray

The first full issue of Big Shoulders will be for sale at C2E2 this weekend. Stop by W-25 in artist alley. We’re also preparing a kickstarter campaign for the second issue, but which also includes options to catch up on the complete first chapter. MAD CASTLE by Colin Lor

We’ve been building this one for awhile now. In fact, I met Mr. Lor at C2E2 in 2025 and first discussed this project, sharing the script with him a few days later. Fast forward and now we’ll have ash can previews of this first issue on hand at the con.

Colin has is own booth at the con (C-15, and I will be at W-25). Be sure to stop by his table. His work, including the prints he has on offer at C2E2, will stop you in your tracks. In fact, his artwork he offers as prints is precisely what introduced me to his work last year.

Wildly different worlds, those two books.

It’s a miraculous thing, crafting a tale. In a real way, they become a tactile place that we can visit, especially during their construction. A story becomes a world all its own, into which a piece of our consciousness can fall into for a spell. Much of this process is solo diving. But locking into the art of collaboration when MAKING COMICS is a joy in my life. A huge piece of the joy of creation is in sharing a world of storytelling with co-creators, a place we can visit together.

The ongoing tales of Mad Castle and Big Shoulders are two worlds I’ve been building for years now. It’s thrilling to begin letting go of the crafting (and the marketing. Blah!). For these two worlds, we’re nearly ready for the tales to do their own telling. If they’ve caught your attention, I sure hope you’ll consider diving in for the ride.

But remember how I said I had THREE tales in the works?

Well, at C2E2, on Saturday, March 28th, I’d also like to offer a glimpse into this third dimension…
